Solar & Battery Setups Can Be Confusing

Solar installers don't often take the time to fully understand your needs and provide a balanced system that really gives you what you need. We do things differently.

Our tools and guides can help you understand the systems and make sure you get the right one for you.

  • Do I need a battery?
  • What's a Time of Use tariffs?
  • Are solar panels worth it?
  • How much will I really save?
  • What is a kWh?

Saving the most money starts with understanding how these systems work and getting the right one for you.

Our base load calculator is a great place to start if you are trying to understand more about your homes energy usage.

Saving Money Can Start Before Installing Solar

Solar panels and battery systems can and will save you money on your electricity bills, but using more energy means a larger system and higher upfront cost.

The simplest way to get started is to reduce how much electricity you use to begin with. This doesn't have to mean constantly going around turning lights off to save £10 per year - It means targeted, meaningful changes that could significantly reduce your energy bills with next to no cost.

  • Switching to a Time of Use tariff and running devices when it's cheaper costs nothing and could give you significant savings.
  • Energy monitoring plugs can help you understand what's costing you the most and save energy.
  • Smart plugs can save you money by automating devices that use more energy, or running devices when power is cheaper.
  • Replacing devices with more energy efficient versions will save you money all year round, even when the suns not shining.

Understanding These Systems Can Massively Save You Money

Installing the wrong kit could leave you out of pocket with very little to show for it.

  • Installing an inverter that's too small means you're still drawing from the grid.
  • Don't have battery storage and work all day? Your solar generation could be wasted.

Even a small plug-in solar panel system could give you meaningful savings when setup in the right way.

  • If your home draws 150W constantly, a plug-in solar panel kit with the right battery could save you £30 per month.
  • Sizing your solar panel and batteries correctly avoids overpaying or buying a system that barely covers you usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is plug-in solar?

While a traditional solar panel system is hard wired into your consumer unit, plug-in solar allows solar panels to be plugged into a standard 3-pin plug.

Instead of this plug drawing power like any other device you have plugged in, the power flows back into your home meaning you use less power from the grid (and less money too).

What is an inverter?

An inverter converts the energy produced by solar panels to AC voltage that can be used to power devices in your home, just as if they were powered from the mains.

All of this is seamless. When you have enough power coming from your solar panels, your devices are powered by the sun, but as soon as more power is needed, it's instantly provided by the grid.
